Home Visits, Clinic Appointments or Online Sessions

We offer support sessions within family’s own homes because we feel this creates a more relaxed atmosphere for the young person and is usually more convenient for the family. A quiet room would be required, where the session can take place without interruptions.

We are able to visit homes around South West and South East London depending on location. We work with a lot of families around the Northcote Road area and across Battersea, Clapham, Wimbledon, Tooting, Streatham and neighbouring areas. If you are not sure if we can come to your location, please contact us to find out.

We know that some young people may prefer to meet outside of the family home and we have clinic space a few minutes walk from Clapham Junction Station (on Battersea Rise) and a few minutes walk from Wimbledon Station (on the Broadway). We are also able to offer online therapy sessions via zoom.

Assessment

Assessment sessions are usually 1.5 hours long and will cover a range of topics including the presenting concerns, the young person’s life in general, including their likes and dislikes, hopes for the future, their goals for any changes they might wish to make and the family history. Both the young person and a parent would usually be involved in the assessment, depending on the young person’s age and the family’s preference.

At the end of the asssesment, you will receive verbal feedback on what we think may be causing the difficulties and what we think might help. If ongoing support is needed, we may offer this within our service - please see the Therapy section on this page for more detail. In other circumstances, we may recommend an alternative service, either because we think we are not the right fit, or because we think your child requires expertise other than child psychology, or because we think you can access something suitable for free.

We are not able to offer full assessments for Autism Spectrum Disorder or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.

Therapy

Therapy sessions are 50 minutes long and will be focused around the young person’s goals. The support offered will be tailored to the young person’s needs but the main model used is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, where appropriate. We have experience of working with a wide range of therapeutic approaches and techniques and are therefore able to be flexible in our approach, depending on the needs and preferences of the young person. Treatment sessions tend to be shorter-term and we will always be open about when sessions could potentially come to an end, rather than continuing in the longer-term if this is not required.

Free Initial Phone Call

We offer an initial free 15 minute telephone consultation to all families who are considering working with us. During the call we would gather more information about your concerns and check that we might be a suitable fit for your child. We will also answer any questions you might have about the process. To book an initial consultation, please visit the Contact page and fill in our contact form.

Difficulties treated

We are able to work therapeutically with a wide range of presenting difficulties including depression, social anxiety, health anxiety, generalised anxiety, separation anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder,
post-traumatic stress disorder, behavioural difficulties and underlying neurodevelopmental difficulties such as ASD and ADHD.

However, we are not able to work with young people experiencing an eating disorder, psychotic illnesses or where there are significant concerns about risk to self. If you are not sure whether you or your child would meet these criteria, please do contact us for a further discussion.

Confidentiality

The detailed content of sessions is usually kept confidential, other than discussion with our own supervisors and your GP as standard. However, the exception to this would be if there was a concern about risk to someone, in which case information would need to be shared to ensure safety is maintained.
